Me, Myself and I
Have u ever been to §$&%??$ ? Well, we have! And
what we've seen and what we've heard, is what we tried to remember and
communicate to u with this record.
"The Institute" is ment to be an amalgamation of all that what
musically matterz to us. In nearly four years of working on this album,
we have developed several internal methods for us and our future
musical workflow, but what is even more important, we have also
developed unique atmospheres, different usages of instruments and
voices and finally long lasting listening pleasure. It didn't take us
so awfully long to make this piece of music cause we're lazy, but
because we've been working on details as much as on big concepts and
opposed musical ideas. This included discussions, of course
subconscious fights and everything u imagine when thinking of
three/four daft wannabe-artists having a cup of Earl Grey (legs folded,
no oxygen in the room and you can't articulate!).
Taking things apart and putting them back together has become a lovely
procedure we've been experimenting with a lot and in all kind of ways.
The outcome is something we called "The Institute". In an early grey
stage of the recording process we tried to find words that allow a
forecast of what we've been up to. Those were "audiophil blinking
sparkling touching searching for what / unlocking sensualizing
rewriting minimizing of what". In a certain way those aspects still
match with what we feel about the album today. Although the perspective
is different. It suddenly changes from a bright flash forward to a
loving retrospective.
Looking at the conceptual side of "The Institute" we have to mention the spatial turn in music. It does matter where u compose music, it does matter where u perform and record music and it finally matters where u play music. The category of space has developed to a characterizing aspect of Drywater Studios throughout the rehearsal and recording process of the album. Constantly questioning ur space of choice might give u unknown opportunities in ur composing or performing work. Space is relevant.
Explaining album lyrics is nearly as a bad as explainig a joke. Just remember to "Sing along and think alone". And if u don't have a clue at all, just look up ur dream documentary, cause that might be the place u'll find answers. Leaving u with the sounds of a searchengine and a loving touch of idiocy.
Besides, if you are interested in working with us (music, lyrics, via internet) and if you would like to
listen to an instrumental demo, please contact us. Although we have
vocal-lines and lyrics to offer, we will give you total writing and
composing freedom.
Get in touch!
Cheering u up
